Key words
One of my main research lines is related to mechanochemical design of advanced nanomaterials and their applications. In this regard I have employed mechanochemistry, as a powerful tool, to produce a wide range of nanomaterials, from bioconjugates to metal oxides, with applications in catalysis and energy storage. For instance, I have been working on the mechanochemical design of protein (namely Hemoglobin, Laccase and Bovine Serum Albumin)-functionalized magnetic nanomaterials for catalysis and energy storage applications. Remarkably, such low-cost materials have been implemented as (electro)catalyts and in supercapacitors designs.
Motivated for the current fossil fuels depletion and the consequent environmental issues such as air pollution and global warming, I have been working on the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass towards high-added value chemicals and fuels, as a greener alternative to the petro-based industry. Always taken into account the green chemistry principles and the possible scale-up of the process, I have explored continuous flow methodologies, microwave-assisted and mechanochemical approaches for biomass valorization.
